RISK AND DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
Threats and extreme events such as hydrological disasters, wildfires, earthquakes and eruptions, have high impact on human safety and cause severe economic losses. The loss originated by such events affects not only the population but is further passed on to industry and, as these events are growing in frequency and size, it will also challenge the sustainability of insurance companies.
In this framework, EO spaceborne data provide valuable and timely information on damaged areas, extent of flood, location and severity of burnt areas, and ground movements.
GMATICS offers multiple solutions based on frequent and regular
satellite monitoring and specialised AI algorithms
to address risk and damage assessment.
Spaceborne data are exploited to:
- provide valuable and timely images after the
occurrence of the damage for effective intervention, - detect the flood extent during emergency scenario,
- support resource management and ground
activities of fire departments, - evaluate the extent and severity of the burnt area
for damage evaluation at large scale and vegetation
regrowth rate estimation, - detect and monitor ground movements,
- retrieve the deformation pattern after earthquakes.
GMATICS’ Risk and Damage Assessment solutions information can be efficiently
integrated within the current operational process of the customers,
and can also be accessed through mobile devices and our web platform.
