DESCRIPTION

GMATICS is a SME born in 2017 that integrates satellite monitoring, aerial/drone surveys, geospatial databases, and Artificial Intelligence, to create digital models of reality (Digital Twins) for improving the management of cities and critical infrastructures (transport, energy, TLC) and addressing the effects of climate change underway. We are searching for a mission-oriented Remote Sensing Engineer to join our forward-thinking, innovative team of developers and entrepreneurs.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Responsibilities

  • Build geospatial Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning solutions to solve scientific challenges for our clients.

  • Develop downscaling and forecast Artificial Intelligence models.

  • Perform literature survey and document state-of-the-art Remote Sensing methodologies for application development.

  • Remote Sensing data handling and processing.

  • Design technical approaches and solutions involving Remote Sensing and geospatial information, and estimate the effort involved.

  • Process structured and unstructured data from several data sources, such as Remote Sensing and geospatial information in general.

  • Support the technical team in the different phases of the data exploitation process.

  • Support the review of technical deliverables from projects.

  • Prepare example workflows to support data analysis and visualization.

  • Participate in project meetings and reviews.

  • Generate scientific and technical notes whenever needed during the relevant project phases.

  • Propose and perform feasibility studies for new development and new areas of applications.

WHO YOU ARE

Required

  • Knowledge of the satellite platforms operating in the earth observation field (Sentinel, Landsat, Cosmo-SkyMed, etc.) and of the principles of active and passive optic, infrared, and microwave sensors.

  • At least 2 years  experience in image analysis  and Remote Sensing massive data processing using a code-based approach (in particular Python, geospatial libraries as GDAL, geopandas, xarray,...)

  • Experience in the analysis of Remote Sensing data using relevant exploitation tools (e.g. ESA Sentinel Toolboxes, QGIS, …).

  • Experience in the implementation and/or management of Remote Sensing projects.

  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Organizational, multitasking, prioritization, and time-management skills.

  • Capacity for planning and taking initiative in an IT environment applied to scientific endeavors.

  • Ability to write maintainable and well-documented code.

  • Capability to write clear and structured technical documents.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Desired

  • PhD in Remote Sensing or Earth Observation related fields.

  • 2+ years experience in scientific software development.

  • Experience in data processing within a cloud environment, Artificial Intelligence methods, and modeling.

  • Experience in artificial intelligence tools (Tensorflow/PyTorch).

  • Knowledge in statistical analysis to integrate with Remote Sensing data.

  • Experience with conversion and handling of a variety of 2D & 3D spatial, CAD and survey data formats including GIS, CAD, IFC, LiDAR (LAS), CSV, XML variants.

  • Experience working with processing, classifying, and extracting LiDAR data and derivatives.
